About The Artist    Tom Baker, new age music with a movie soundtrack style

Tom Baker was originally a guitar player in the mid 60's and 70's, yep, way back then. In 1962 he bought a new Gibson, Les Paul, electric guitar at Dusi Music and was involved with one of the many local rock bands that flourished at that time. But Rock & Roll was just not the sound Tom really wanted, so he started playing solo and writing some original music. It was this new music that brought the most applause, long before New Age became popular. An opportunity for a good paying job came along, not in music but in an assembly plant and with a new wife and a mortgage, the music was put away for a long sleep. In 1992, new technology was now available to create more than one instrument sound at a time without creating a band.   A keyboard, guitar or vocals could be recorded in tracks, edited, mixed and stored as digital audio, all by one person.  Unfortunately, the Gibson was sold to start the small studio in 1994 but music was again being created and in 1997 MagMusic Recording was formed.  Over 50 original songs now have copyright certificates from the U.S. Library of Congress and four CD albums completed.

Tom Baker is back, bringing with him an amazing keyboard with the sounds of an orchestra.

About The Music

The music . . .   what kind is it?

Well, it's all instrumental, except for a few small parts by Tom or Dianna, and it would fall into the New Age or World category with different instrument sounds and effects such as wind or thunder.  But many say some of the songs would be perfect as a movie soundtrack. Sometimes it is close to Soft Rock, but then the orchestra and string sounds make it drift toward Easy Listening. For the most part, it is soft music, sometimes dark, powerful or emotional, occasionally sad and often suspenseful.   It's been called visual, spiritual, mood, inspirational, and metaphysical music,  compared to Peter Buffett, David Arkenstone or Yanni style.

The most common description is "relaxing". If you listen to this music a second time, not while you are doing something else, but with headphones during a quiet time, you will hear the real soul of the music and you will enjoy it more from then on. Each album is based on a theme and each song is a story within that theme, you supply the visual images.  This music really does have a soul, something personal about it that gives it a life of its own. It has been referred to as "thematic music" and Jeroen Roeper from Tracks Online says "A name that comes to me is Vangelis".   Land of Tigers is already being called spiritual, healing metaphysical music.

Let's just call it "Contemporary Instrumental".

SoundScan says New Age music sales are up!

Music teacher, Andy Kuthy, says "Tom has an extraordinary musical vision. Listening to his music is like sitting down to a really good home cooked meal where everything is prepared with the best ingredients, a magic touch that keeps calling you back for more".

Michael Kurilla Jr., a musician for over 20 years says that "you must have a special sound to succeed in the music business, I think Tom Baker has achieved that sound".
